Committees

Convention Chairpersons (Steering Committee): the convention chairman and chairwoman run the convention. They are responsible for calling Steering Meetings and making sure the committee chairpersons are doing their jobs. One important job of the chirpersons is to arrange for a Keynote speaker. They are also responsible for organizing a decorations committee to decorate for the actual convention and for making sure C120 is cleaned up after the convention. They will preside over the convention and oversee and coordinate all activities and committees related to the convention. The chairs will establish the Convention Agenda.
Recording Secretary Committee: This committee is responsible for taking the roll of the delegates present on the day of the convention. They will report the attendance to the grade level secretary for attendance purposes. They will carry out the roll call of the state delegates at the convention. They are also responsible for keeping the official tally of the votes for each candidate and will display the vote as it changes. This group must also create a seating chart for all of the delegates.
Rules Committee: This committee will write the general guidelines for the candidates and the convention itself. It will adopt rules for posters, handbills, TV ads, and rallies. It must publis the rules for use by the campaign committees of each candidate.
Debate Committee: This committee is responsible for organizing the Candidate Debates on December 12th in C-120. This group is in charge of the setup, decorations, and sound system. They will also establish the rules for the debate.
Publicity Committee: This committee is responsible for all of the publicity. They will need to contact local newspapers, TV stations, school yearbook and school newspaper. They are responsible for making sure everyone is informed of all mock convention activities.
News Broadcast Committee: This committee is responsible for creating a video news broadcast of the candidates and their issues. The news broadcast may not be longer than 15 minutes each. The committee is encouraged to be creative but is reminded that the purpose of the videos is to inform.
Mock Convention Newspaper: This committee is responsible for putting out a newspaper about the convention, candidates and issues. The paper may not be longer than 6 pages.
Web Committee: This committee is responsible for creating a 2007 Mock Convention Web Site which will have important dates, meetings, and information about the candidates and their position statements on the issues. This committee must make sure they have members on each of the candidates campaign staff. Candidates WILL not have their own web sites. This is the official website for the convention.
Video Production Committee: This committee is responsible for taking the individual candidate videos and putting them together on one video or disc. They will then make a copy for each of the government teachers. They are also responsible for helping the news broadcast committee in producing their video if necessary.
